I specialize in the political approach to the study of government, with a particular focus on political institutions. My research emphasizes the dynamics of local governments and their interactions with central governments, as well as the analysis of elections, including voting behavior and the impact of institutional changes on electoral competition. While my primary geographical area of focus is Japan, I also engage in comparative studies that explore governance and development issues in other countries.
